Death of the Giving Heart

There once was a girl

Who never cried.

Even when she was sad,

She’d smile and say, “I’m fine.”

There was no limit to her love.

When she gave it, she’d give it all.

With open arms, she welcomed all,

Unselfishly allowing the anguished and the lonely

To bask in her shower of love.

Then came the day when her heart ran dry.

She searched for care,

But none was there.

Blindly she reached for loved ones

Only to be laughed at and shunned.

That day a heart died.

A giving yet sad heart that once laughed

But never again dared to cry.
